The Government of Bihar has introduced the Chief Minister Women Employment Scheme (Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana) to empower women financially and promote self-employment opportunities.
On 26th September 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar jointly initiated the scheme by directly transferring ₹10,000 as the first installment into the bank accounts of 75 lakh women.
This financial support aims to help women kick-start small businesses or self-employment ventures. The scheme is expected to benefit over 1.4 crore women across the state, with disbursements scheduled between 3rd October and 26th December 2025. A unique feature of this scheme is that all payments will be credited only on Fridays.
Objectives and Benefits
The primary goal of this scheme is to provide financial independence to women by supporting them in starting small enterprises.
- Every eligible woman receives ₹10,000 as the initial installment to begin her business.
- After six months, based on business progress, women may receive up to ₹2 lakh in additional financial support.
- Apart from financial aid, beneficiaries will also be given entrepreneurship and business management training to ensure long-term success.
- The scheme is being implemented with the support of JEEViKA Self-Help Groups and village organizations.
This initiative not only strengthens women’s economic status but also contributes to the overall development of rural and urban communities in Bihar.
Eligibility and Application Process
The application process has been kept simple and transparent so that maximum women can take advantage of the scheme.
- Women who have not yet applied can either:
- Rural applicants: Visit their nearest village organization and fill out the form.
- Urban applicants: Apply online through the official portal – mmry.brlps.in
- Required documents include Aadhaar Card, bank passbook, mobile number, and other basic details.
The streamlined process ensures quick verification and approval so that financial assistance reaches the beneficiaries on time.
Payment Schedule and Future Plans
To ensure regular and timely payments, the Bihar government has decided to transfer installments every Friday starting from 3rd October 2025. Each eligible woman will continue receiving ₹10,000 in installments as scheduled.
In the long run, if a woman’s business shows positive growth, she will receive:
- Additional financial support (up to ₹2 lakh)
- Advanced training programs to expand her business
- Linkages with other government initiatives for sustainable livelihood
